Thermalite Insulating Glass Unit:

Characteristics

  • Insulating glass consists of assembling two or more individual lites separated by a hermetically sealed air space. Lites are assembled with a rigid spacer in between them which contains desiccant granules that absorb excess humidity trapped inside the air space. The perimeter of the insulated glass unit is sealed using a primary sealant (polyisobutylene) and a secondary seal (polysulfide or silicone).
  • Insulated glass units destined to be used in commercial buildings are generally 25 mm thick and are constructed with two lites of 6 mm glass and an air space of 13 mm.  The addition of a lite of a high performance low emissivity glass would reduce solar heat gain entering the building, minimize heat loss to the exterior, while providing a source of natural light.

Maximum insulated glass unit dimensions are determined by a number of considerations, such as their thickness, weight, ratio of width/height, application and loads (ex. wind and snow). Maximum, achievable, dimensions do not imply that sealed units manufactured to these dimensions will meet all laws, rules, regulations and other requirements. It is up to the user to ensure that the products they order are suitable for their intended use.
