The revitalization of the Espace Danse of the Wilder Building in the heart of Montreal’s Quartier des spectacles was led by the architectural consortium of Lapointe Magne and Ædifica. The building brings together the production and performance spaces of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, and several other Canadian dance and arts organizations. The purpose of this project was to create an environment tailored to its occupants while meeting LEED green building requirements.
With this objective in mind, a glass wall was installed on the existing façade, thus improving the building’s overall energy performance, and the glass was silkscreened strategically to allow for the projection of images directly onto the building during events. All without compromising natural light optimization within the building or the outside view. Adding a curtain wall to the existing building also allowed to reuse the structure in place and preserve its heritage value.
